home is taking shape on the Alice
Hyde Medical Center campus—
with the emphasis on “home.” is
$35 million facility replaces a 1960s
medical setting with a more homelike
atmosphere where seniors will receive
the speci c level of care they require.
While the two-building complex
will have 135 beds for residents
who need skilled nursing care,
the feature that sets this facility
apart from others in northern
New York is its 30-bed assisted-
living program (ALP). e ALP is
designed to assist people with daily
activities such as meals, medication
management, bathing supervision
and transportation.
ALP residents will enjoy studio-
like private rooms with private
showers and kitchenettes. e two-
story building will have a country
kitchen and large living room for
everyone to enjoy.
Meeting a need

is already o ered in neighboring
counties,” says Alice Hyde
Medical Center Nursing Home
Administrator Dorothy Zegarelli.
“It ful lls an unmet long-term care
need in Franklin County.”
e new home will also include
a memory support unit with

grandmother or mother being
wheeled down a nursing home hall
in her robe and with her hair in a
towel a er a shower. at’s probably
not her style, right?
“ at’s how we have to do it now,
but the new facility will have showers
in every private room and in each
companion suite. Each oor will
have a spa area for leisurely baths,”
Zegarelli says. “ ere will also be a
